1. Questions for you...
Fri Jan 18, 2013, 10:53 PM
Jan 2013

Are you financially well-off or at least able to retire and not worry about money?
Are you employed now?
Are you retiring because you can get affordable (Obama) health care in 2014?

Just wondering... I am/might be in a similar situation and was wondering about your reasons/conditions
that allows you to retire at 57.

Thanks.

I will have a modest retirement (so will my wife), the house is paid off, I have been frugal my whole life, and my folks left me a modest nest egg.

Are you employed now?

Yes

Are you retiring because you can get affordable (Obama) health care in 2014?

Yes. My workplace retirement does not include a healthcare benefit so I was waiting for this.

Congratulations my friend....!

I am a firm believer in working real hard - but also playing real hard.

You put in your time and now you and your wife can spend many many years enjoying
the rest of your life.

Write us when you have a chance! <smiley face thingys>!!!!

Oh, I did not mean to be personal- just wondering about your retirement success!

I will still be here at the DU.

ON EDIT:

The post wasn't meant to be just about me. But rather me as an example of the possible now.
It was posted as a hopeful "signpost" to others as well.

I took it as a 'signpost' - wondering about my retirement. And wondering if
I could retire as well.

I am a proudly middleclass. I worked my butt off. Ran my own business. But, to be
honest, I am not sure we have enough for a totally secure retirement. Healthcare
is an issue (as with all humans)....

They posted this. This is my question to them.

Our retirement income will be slightly higher however as I re-figured it after I asked.

Thanks to CA voters for voting yes on 30 and of course for Jerry Brown, things are looking up!

Yay Jerry Brown and of course Obama. I always knew the key was the subsidy to the non yuppies among us.

...description. Here in CA, it has been great to see Californians elect Jerry Brown (again), pass Prop 30, create a Dem legislature, put in a Dem for SSPI, get rid of Bono-Mack, elect Filner as mayor...on and on.

It's a complete turn around from where we were with Arnold. AND...as is said..."As goes California, so goes the nation."

HOPE.
