California Gov. Newsom lets hair salons, barbershops reopen after coronavirus closures

California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Tuesday announced that hair salons and barbershops may reopen Wednesday if they provide masks for customers and employees to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Under the new guidelines, counties that follow the criteria outlined by the California Department of Public Health may “move further ahead in Stage 2 of the resilience roadmap.”

In Stage 2 of the state’s long-term plan to reopen, retail, manufacture, office workplaces, limited personal services, outdoor museums, childcare and essential businesses can open with modifications in place.

"We’re making progress, we’re moving forward. We’re not looking back, but we are walking into the unknown, the untested... and we have to be guided by the data that brought us back to this place," Newsom said during a Tuesday briefing.

No masks, not a care about what is happening. There was a plan at the start, now it seems like it’s just the wild Wild West.

CA isn't even holding steady, CA is increasing!!!!! We started out so well too. I began self quarantine, stay at home at the beginning of March and I am pissed off!!!!! All that sacrifice by me and many others so that idiots who value going to a party over saving a grandparent's life can play with our lives.

Why is News om doing a 180? What about the plan of seeing numbers dropping and staying low for a period of time BEFORE any reopening??????

We’re barely doing 65,000 tests per day when we have more people than that in prisons and that doesn’t even touch meat plants and skilled facilities. I don’t know what’s going on but it’s time to double down on everything I’ve been doing. I’m already having nightmares about school starting. I’m glad my kids are in college and classes are all online for the fall.

Keep yourself safe. Try to convince others to do so, but brace yourself for the inevitable.
When the second wave sweeps, you cannot let the stupidity of others rob you of the will to persevere.
The really stupid ones will cry that it's your fault for not trying harder to stop them killing themselves.

I'm not a proponent of hoarding except when I witness excessive stupidity.

Coronavirus, drought and wildfires: this is going to be one hell of a year.

with calls from her clients today asking how soon they can get a haircut.

This reopening was originally in Phase 3 in CA. Now, it’s in Phase 2? Really? Do you know how close to a client’s face my wife gets to cut hair?

My wife works at Ulta, and so far they have not opted to open the salon part of the biz where my wife works. She is going in tomorrow for training in what Ulta HAS opted to do: online product sales with curbside pick up of orders. No transactions at the store.

I hope they give it a few more weeks before opening the salon.

Or in most of the Bay Area. Newsom has a tough job trying to keep people self-isolating and restarting the economy.

I still think that regardless of what stores/services open, a lot of people won't patronize them (I know I won't).

Our Director of Public Health has done a good job. He shut the place down early on and is now slowly opening some things up. What's different here from other areas I know of is that masks were never required here, only strongly recommended. Most people complied.

But now that some businesses are opening up, masks are mandatory in all public indoor spaces. I just ventured out away from home today for the first time in a week, and compliance was near 100%.
