Is your power off?
This is ridiculous. The low humidity is 23%, and the high winds are 6mph. I guess this can go on for days.

(21,664 posts)First, they undermaintain their lines - which caused the Camp Fire (the worst in the state's recorded history).
And now they overcompensate by shutting power off to millions "just in case."
Can't wait to see what their PR people dream up of next.

(31,186 posts)A PG&E spokesperson said it takes time to shut down the grid. But 15 hours is bullshit. Were in flatlands, btw, and our power lines are buried. One block away the lines are above ground, and yes, the power is on.

(21,664 posts)You'll recall that Enron caused the massive brownouts in 2001 in part because every time the power supply to California was choked off to some extent, they'd make a killing buying or shorting futures.
Plus, of course, the giddy pleasure at seeing California suffer due to something being done in Texas.
My guess is that someone in Pg&E is playing the futures game with this - and laughing all the way tot he bank.

No wonder they feel so "represented" by the current White House occupant.

No wonder they're so happy with Cheeto. "Finally, someone just like us in the White House!"

(34,661 posts)Rural areas where we would lose power on a daily basis. Kept the Freezer in the Basement or the coldest room in the house. Always kept a old blanker or Canvas on top of it year around. Cheaper than throwing everything out. And if helps with the Cooling operation of the Freezer.

(46,081 posts)I was visiting my sister in CT this summer when the power went out in an awful storm. They had it up again in under an hour. Made me realize what crappy service we get here.

(322 posts)I have no power and am on the leeward side of of the Pacific Coast, north of Monterey Bay, which had some wind, but 5-10 MPH, so no "High Winds". This is a major economic disruption of the rural areas of California! The execs of PG&E and their parent company need to summarily fired, without ANY severance benefits!
