Does anyone here at DU know if, or how, a California vote-by-mail voter can check the status of their completed and returned absentee ballot?
How do you know for a certainty that your absentee ballot been received by your local elections office?
Further, how can you verify that your ballot is valid and will be counted?
If, for some reason, your ballot is considered spoiled or otherwise invalid, can you void the first ballot and vote again?
I feel much safer being an early voter voting on a paper ballot. Don't like or trust "black box voting." I mailed mine back almost a week ago. It most likely has been received by the county registrars office by now. I want to know for certain that my absentee ballot was received by my local elections office. I'm very curious, for myself and for any other California voters, to learn how one verifies that your absentee (by mail) ballot has been received, and will be properly counted, by your local elections office.
Anyone who knows how a CA voter can verify the status of their own absentee ballot please share how its done.
Thanks in advance.

(15,189 posts)I kind of remember reading something about that on the envelope. Now what would that websites address be? I don't know. Maybe it's on the perforation that you pulled off the ballot. I can't find mine.

(35,364 posts)voted themself. Take people in a nursing home that have had a stroke or Altzhiemers, how may of them could be filled out by a
caregiver or other family member. I did my mothers this spring, I could have voted for anyone and she would not have known.
The last couple years when she was still at home the county caregiver filled it out and I know she was a Republican who
knows what she did.
...but when it comes to Pukes, Baggers, Wingers...we know that is out the window.

(247 posts)Thanks for the helpful replies. I Googled "my county registrar of voters" and found their web page. Had to drill down a little to find "Voter Status Search." Not real easy to find, and not too hard either, if one is motivated enough to look. After entering my personal identification information I see my ballot was returned by mail and was not challenged. So to speak its "in the ballot box" already. It feels better having this verified. Thanks my fellow DUers.
My county registrar's website has a "Voter Status Search." It should be much easier to find IMHO. A better title and an appropriately easy to find and use button at the top of the page would help.
Most of our ballots here are counted on Diebold ballot counters, which I don't fully trust.
