Officer punched as tensions flare at 'Patriot Picnic' in San Diego's Chicano Park

A San Diego police officer was punched in the face and three people were arrested Saturday during a clash at Chicano Park between a small group holding a "Patriot Picnic" and a larger gathering of park supporters defending its cultural roots.

San Diego police reported three arrests, one for battery on a police officer. The officer suffered a bloody nose as he tried to arrest a suspect who refused an order to get out of the street, said Lt. Scott Wahl. The suspect was not injured, Wahl said.

The event started about 10 a.m., with police initially reporting that both groups were "law-abiding and peaceful."

But as the crowd ballooned to an estimated 700 people, Chicano Park advocates far outnumbered the 50 or so "picnickers," who staged the event in an attempt to hoist the American flag at the park, where the Aztlan and La Raza flags fly. A U.S. flag flies in a corner of the park near a veterans monument.

I grew up in Philly and now live in Dan Diego. Both cities are BLUE/Dem and the pseudo "patriots" are not welcome here or in Phila.

I have attended 12 rallies/protests in San Diego and only twice encountered these idiots. They think they own the flag. Some of the alt-right "Proud Boys" (A neo Nazi group from LA) came down in June to instigate fights during our "Impeach T*UMP Rally". The San Diego cops just stood there and allowed them to disrupt the speakers with their bullhorns, etc until one of the speakers, a city council rep, called the chief of police and told her to tell the cops to do their job and separate the violent instigators from the peaceful attendees. The cops were as much at fault as the Proud Boys for standing there with their arms folded, not doing a damn thing. Cops are not our friends when it comes to the Fucking Moron from what I have observed. I doubt any real violence will occur if he is impeached since San Diego is BLUE, even if the cops are RED. Our city council will take care of any GOP crap when it comes down to it. This used to be a GOP city due to the large military based here, but the cosmopolitan city itself is no longer a majority redneck, GOP town full of idiots.
