Two men charged with defrauding In-N-Out of more than $150,000
SANTA ANA An In-N-Out Burger employee and the owner of an industrial parts company are facing felony charges because authorities say they defrauded the fast-food company out of more than $150,000.
The Orange County District Attorneys Office said a fork lift mechanic for In-N-Out ordered forklift parts from the owner of Industrial Material Handling Express, submitting more than $150,000 in fraudulent invoices to In-N-Out, in which costs for parts were inflated by 75 percent. Prosecutors also allege the pair submitted fraudulent invoices for items that were actually earmarked for personal use.
The suspected scheme was discovered by another Industrial Material Handling Express employee, according to the DAs Office, and was reported to the Irvine Police Department.
Kevin Anthony Koerner, 44, of Lakewood, employed by the burger chain, and Louie Garcia, 47, of Downey, owner of the company, have been charged with felony counts of grand theft and forgery, along with sentencing enhancements for a loss more than $65,000 and for aggravated white collar crime more than $100,000, according to the DAs Office.
