Workers say Hemet mental health clinic is unsafe

A union representing Riverside County employees has filed a grievance over what workers describe as unsafe working conditions, including threats of violence against staff and frequent car break-ins, at a county-run mental health clinic in Hemet.

The grievance filed last month with the county follows a Dec. 14 attack on an employee, according to the grievance filed by Service Employees International Union Local 721.

In that incident, a male mental health professional was accosted in the parking lot by a person wielding a syringe of yellow liquid and prevented from getting out of his car, according to the union.

On Dec. 21, employees held a “safety check” at the clinic to call attention to conditions they say endanger them and the public.
