Xavier Becerra appointed to serve as CA attorney general

Rep. Xavier Becerra, D-Los Angeles, has been appointed by Gov. Jerry Brown to serve as the next California attorney general.

Becerra will succeed Kamala Harris, who was elected in November to serve in the U.S. Senate.

“Governor Brown has presented me with an opportunity I cannot refuse — to serve as Attorney General of my home state,” Becerra said in a statement. “As a former deputy attorney general, I relished the chance to be our state’s chief law enforcement officer to protect consumers, advance criminal justice reform and, of course, keep our families safe.”

The California AG's office will be the last line of defense for the environment, at least in California, once Trump eviscerates the EPA enforcement office.
