One Incredible Cat Saves Three Human Lives in Fire

SAN MATEO, CA — A cat may have consigned three of its lives this week, after effectively saving a trio of people from a burning building.

Yes, you read that right. A furry feline is being credited with saving three people from a two-alarm fire in the Bay Area, according to fire officials.

It all started around 4:47 a.m. Thanksgiving Day at 3256 Los Prados St., San Mateo Fire Department Battalion Chief Joe Novelli said. A caller reported that an attached garage was on fire, but when firefighters arrived they found the garage engulfed in flames and a home on the right also on fire, along with power lines draped across the street.

That person also said they had only discovered the flames thanks to the persistence of their cat.

... about twenty years ago, where a cat who lived in a house behind a local synagogue alerted her owners to a fire that was engulfing the temple and the school attached to it.

Her owners called 911, and the synagogue - although damaged - was saved from complete ruin.

The cat was later honoured by a grateful Jewish community, and was made an honourary member of the congregation.

I'm not sure if she appreciated the gesture - but I'm pretty sure she enjoyed the lox breakfast that followed the ceremony.

After the lox breakfast did the congregation refer to the feline as Kosher Kat?
