crosspost from BS group: Bernie Sanders picks San Jose for first major Bay Area rally

POSTED: 05/17/2016 05:54:38 AM PDT | UPDATED: ABOUT 4 HOURS AGO

SAN JOSE -- Bernie Sanders is bringing his call for a political revolution to San Jose Wednesday with a 1 p.m. rally at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds.

This will be the Vermont senator's first major Bay Area rally leading up to his showdown with Hillary Clinton in California's June 7 Democratic primary. He made a brief stop at his Oakland campaign headquarters last week after campaigning in the Central Valley.

The rally is part of Sanders' two-day swing through California that will begin Tuesday evening in the Los Angeles suburb of Carson, where he will address supporters at the StubHub Center as results trickle in from primaries held that day in Kentucky and Oregon.

After addressing supporters in San Jose on Wednesday, Sanders will head to Vallejo for a 7:30 p.m. rally at Vallejo Waterfront Park.

Sanders is making good on his pledge to contest California's primary despite having little mathematical hope of besting Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination.

Doors open at 10 a.m. at the Fairgrounds, 344 Tully Road. Admission is first come, first served, and the campaign is asking people to RSVP at Go.BernieSanders.com.

The rally is free, but parking at the Fairgrounds costs $10 and must be paid in cash. The venue also is served by Valley Transit Authority bus routes 26 and 68

I would think SF, Oakland, Berkeley, Richmond, etc. would be more likely to "feel the Bern".

Oh yes, VTA route 66 goes by there as well.

Because I am seeing a lot of Bernie signs/stickers, etc. Also Santa Cruz is VERY pro Bernie and this would be better for them too.

agree even with the politicians that they elected. It's weird but so be it.

I think Bernie will fill up the fairgrounds - no problem.

sick and tired of the wealthy and corporate America that make it difficult to live in the Bay Area. They can't get ahead and they can't move out. They are stuck. I'm hoping for a big audience but the $10 buck parking may be a problem.

It's the third largest city in the state and has a really bad transit system.

I am transit-dependent. If anyone in civilization (SF, Oakland, Berkeley) sees this and can use an experienced community advocate, please drop me a PM!

and the Berkeley/Oakland area especially is pretty cool. SF has fantastic transit but the prices are even worse than San Jose.

The San Mateo Events Center, aka the County Fairgrounds, was more than happy to offer a group I belong to exhibition space for free - parking was in the $10 range, which would have killed our attendance.

I'd like to actually see a presidential candidate again - the last one I got to see was John Anderson in 1980, when he did a whistle-stop tour of the Peninsula. While we do get a lot of candidates coming through it's usually to raise money at events way out of my price range. Alas, I have a prior commitment in San Mateo to at least 1.

and I can tell you the people are not going to appreciate the extra traffic on a weekday.

there's a small window between 10AM and 2PM when traffic is not horrendous, just bad. At least mid-Peninsula.
