Calif. governor calls other states’ gun laws ‘gigantic back door’ for terrorists

LE BOURGET, France -- Gov. Jerry Brown said over the weekend that “wide open” gun laws in Nevada and Arizona are a “gigantic back door through which any terrorist can walk,” while he was noncommittal on efforts to strengthen gun control measures in California.

Brown, arriving in France for climate talks after the mass shooting in San Bernardino last week, called the shooting a terrorist attack.

The guns used were purchased legally in California before being modified, authorities have said.

Asked if stricter gun control laws were warranted, as some activists have argued, the fourth-term Democrat replied, “California has some of the toughest gun control laws of any state. And Nevada and Arizona are wide open, so that’s a gigantic back door through which any terrorist can walk.”

And therefore could not be assault weapons as they are banned in California and the buyer passed the federal and California background checks.

according to the nra definition then, nothing should be done to stop law abiding future terrorists from getting a hold of any guns that the nra can make legal. except may surveillance (forget privacy and freedoms) and the always present argue about mental health support (who would pay for this given the nra supports the republican effort to take health care away from the bottom 30%?). Some mental health problems, maybe post, can be reduced but not eliminated. So this will not be a good solution. And the white supremists and Islamic terrorists, while I believe have mental health issues, probably will not fall into the definition of those needing mental health support.

So the NRA supports the terrorists.

"Lax" gun laws in any neighboring state had nothing to do with the shootings in San Bernardino last week since the guns used were purchased legally in California.

However it is a problem for other weapons coming into California. This was and may still be the situation in DC. DC has very strict gun laws but Virginia was like a free trade zone for guns. So DC gangsta wants a gun he just hits the beltway to your friendly Virginia gun store and voila guns galore in DC.

It the same spurious argument used against the Canadian Health system. Canada has a stortage of health care professionals because the want more money. Yeah and if the U.S. had the same system they wouldn't be leaving Canada.

A resident of one state cannot buy a gun in another state without having it shipped to a ffl gun dealer in their own state.

No the gangsters you speak of get their guns from people who steal them, from friends and relatives, and from private sales...not from gun stores in other states.

And a federal background check must be performed. Please learn just a little bit on the subject. Even if is not through a dealer it is not legal to sell a weapon to an out if state resident without shipping to an FFL in the receiving state. Let's fully enforce existing laws before making new ones.

See post above...nearly all sales at gun shows require a background check and all interstate sales require a check by federal law.
