Alameda County deputies on paid vacation following video of beating

Two Alameda County Sheriff’s deputies were placed on paid administrative leave following the release of a video showing the officers beating a suspect with batons following a 38-minute car chase from the East Bay to San Francisco.

Sheriff Gregory Ahern placed the deputies on leave Sunday, two days after launching an investigation into the Thursday incident, said Sgt. J.D. Nelson, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office. The deputies were not identified.

The beating was the culmination of a car chase from San Leandro to San Francisco’s Mission neighborhood, with the suspect taking off after the deputies approached the man, who was sitting in a stolen car at about 1:38 a.m., according to Nelson.

The suspect, Stanislav Petrov, 29, reportedly rammed the deputies’ cars, knocking one of the officers down before fleeing the scene.

Isn't this why folks become cops? The thrill of the Hunt? The adrenaline rush of a chase through city streets? The apprehension of a dangerous fugitive? The beating that ensues upon catching their prey is only the LEO's just reward! Take away their God Given Right to take their aggravation, anger and oppression out on the Perp will only lead them to release all that pent up anger out on their families! Is this what America wants? Our LEO's are delicate flowers that must be shielded from any criticism in order to protect their preciously fragile psyches! To summarize:

LEAVE BRITTNEY ALONE!!!

I hope the folks on the opposite side of the table start making sure the contract goes to 'reduced pay' when you have to be put on 'paid administrative leave' - ie, you get paid like the lowliest clerk - after you beat the crap out of someone or shoot them or whatever. Because even if they can't prove it was 'illegal', it represents a severe failure on your part as a 'peace officer'.
