Related: About this forumCalifornia's ballot could be a blockbuster next November (LATimes)
Call it a dream for California political consultants, a nightmare for voters or an electoral extravaganza: The November 2016 ballot could feature a bigger crop of statewide propositions than at any time in the past decade.
--- Snip ---
But political strategists have identified at least 15 -- perhaps as many as 19 --measures that all have a shot at going before voters next fall.
--- Snip ---
A number of political forces help explain why so many are lined up now. For starters, theres the 2011 law that moved everything but measures written by the Legislature to the general election ballot. As a result, June primary ballots are now almost barren of contentious campaigns.
There is also a lingering hangover from the state's record-low voter turnout in 2014: a new and extremely low number of voter signatures needed to qualify an initiative for the ballot.

Marijuana, gun laws, cigarette taxes, minimum wage, school bond (not to mention the drinking age question described in a nearby thread): could be interesting!

OP
That seems to not be logical, seems like the more issues the more folks will take interest.

I think the clear majority are folks who do not vote at all. Issues should draw out the informed.

(78,249 posts)1. People cite crowded ballots as a reason for not voting
Just what we need. Worse turnout.

(78,249 posts)4. Uninformed voters get overwhelmed by all the initiatives.
And thanks to Fux, they're the clear majority.

I have a love/hate relationship with props. Too many and it edges over to hate.

(26,603 posts)6. I admit, I'm often frustrated with our process, particularly when it's huge bond questions
or other topics more properly (IMO) handled by the Legislature and Governor, but it seems like this time it may be a lot of hot-button items that may draw people to the polls. Still, I shudder to imagine the tons and tons of paper that will be landing in our mailboxes over the next year...

I also signed up for the spring primary and the general as pole worker. Last year we had people who wanted to watch Foux news on the TV in the room where the polling was taking place. Then others who parked as close to the building with signs for their man Tom Mclintock.
Lots of Fun.
