Calif. budget measure makes November ballot

A ballot measure that would amend California's Constitution to require two-year budget plans, along with restricting new spending by the Legislature and giving the governor unilateral power to cut spending, has qualified for an already-crowded November ballot, the secretary of state said Tuesday.

The measure is backed by California Forward Action Fund and the Think Long Committee, groups seeking changes in how government works. Think Long is funded by billionaire Nicolas Berggruen.

"Californians will have the opportunity to vote on real budget reforms this November," said Sunne McPeak, co-chair of the California Forward Action Fund.

She said the measure, which is called the Government Performance and Accountability Act, will "provide more transparency in state and local government, enact accountability measures that will inspire confidence among California taxpayers, and promote efficiency and performance standards that all of us deserve."

Yeseree, a real grass roots effort....not. The really unfortunate part is that I have become so jaded I don't even have to read it to know how I am going to vote.
