It's official: Budget deal announced by Gov. Jerry Brown, lawmakers

Gov. Jerry Brown and legislative leaders announced Thursday that they have reached final agreement on a framework for the state budget.

In a joint statement, the governor and lawmakers said they have resolved some of the crucial issues that have lingered since the Legislature approved a $92.1-billion spending plan week last week.

Lawmakers passed a budget on Friday even though there were still disagreements with Brown on several hundred million dollars in spending on social services. Democratic lawmakers have resisted some of the cuts to welfare, healthcare and college scholarships that the governor proposed earlier this year.

With the agreement, the Legislature is scheduled to vote on the package of budget-related bills in the coming days. Details on what will be in them as part of the budget deal were not immediately available, but Senate Leader Darrell Steinberg (D-Sacramento) had called a 11:45 news conference on the matter.
