A nice list of Southern California hikes

Ran across this following links from another thread, and thought I'd share it here. This guy has done a great job with his blog; lots of good ideas!

I've done a couple of those, but a few are going on my to-do list: the Slot and the Punchbowl are really intriguing...

if you don't have a copy for whatever region in So Cal that you live, you should pick one up.

i live right down the street! i hate hiking that trail for the volume of people on it. there's a sister peak across the Gorge called Kwaay Paay Summit that I recommend instead. It's a little steeper in sections, but a couple hundred feet lower in elevation. the best part is you'll run across maybe 10 hikers on that trail, as opposed to the HUNDREDS of people that are climbing Cowles. it provides a much nicer view of MTRP as well imho.

avoided Cowles (probably for the reason you suggest). My only specific memory of MTRP is the old dam, and a vague recollection of hiking on the slopes of Fortuna Mountain.

The "Afoot and Afield..." guides are great - we do have a few for SoCal. Not sure there is one for the Central Coast where I am now, however, I'll need to check...

Thanks for posting this link to my blog I appreciate the support and am glad you like it!

As far as Cowles go, I tend to agree there are probably better hikes in San Diego. I haven't had a chance to do many of them though so if you guys have some suggestions I would love to hear them for next time I am down in SD!

Thanks again!

Josh
