The Solar Question

I see Solar City having a stronger presence here in the Central Valley but it's mostly residential. I wonder why business isn't leading the way on this? In Stockton all the school parking lots are covered with solar panels. Walmart, Target, Home Depot, Lowe's and The Malls could easily do solar panels and they can right it off.

3. SolarCity installed solar panels on Stockton's Walmart store in 2010, the first of many.....

The first SolarCity Walmart project to come online was the Stockton, California store back in July 2010. Today, SolarCity has 190 Walmart solar projects installed or underway and three-quarters of Walmart’s California stores will offset between 5–30% of their power from the sun.

Interesting, my local Walmart store partnered with Bloom Energy and installed Bloom Boxes eight years ago.

Note: Walmart has a sweetheart deal; they pay nothing upfront for the systems and they don't own or maintain them either. Bloom owns their boxes and SolarCity owns their panels and sell electricity to the stores.

Funny thing is just 20 miles West in Tracy it's next to impossible to get the city to sign off on installing Solar City panels on homes or businesses.

The Tracy Walmart store has solar panels too, but I don't which outfit installed them.

I always found it peculiar that Walmart stores are on the cutting edge moving toward a green footprint, while the Walmart heirs are pouring millions into efforts to kill affordable rooftop solar systems for us unwashed masses. Perhaps the Walmart wankers have their hooks into the city of Tracy.

In 1986 the Reagan administration quietly dismantled the White House solar panel installation. Go figure.
