Famed landmark in Amado is now a victim of foreclosure

Famed landmark in Amado is now a victim of foreclosure

For more than three decades, a towering cow skull has beckoned roadside travelers to
visit the Longhorn Grill in Amado.

The symbol of death often belied the liveliness within the diner.

The concrete stucco skull, whose horns reach 30 feet high, may still draw passers-by, but
the restaurant is now as hollow and lifeless as its facade. The Longhorn Grill has closed,
and one of Southern Arizona's great roadside attractions has ridden into the sunset.

Back in my motorcycle enthusiast days, this was a frequent stop.

I think it's been a great stopover for motorcyclists for quite a while... and, although Spring, Summer
and Fall are our biggest biking seasons, too -- there's nothing in Southern AZ to keep bikers from riding
year-round (and they do -- it just seems like all the big rallies/Rides are during the warmer months).
