Arizona’s Governor-elect Katie Hobbs (D) asked a judge on Monday to sanction defeated rival Kari Lake (R) and her lawyers for filing a lawsuit aiming to overturn the results of the Grand Canyon State’s 2022 gubernatorial midterms.

“Courts are established by Arizona’s Constitution and statutes to resolve actual disputes between parties,” Maricopa County Deputy Attorney Thomas P. Liddy wrote in a 15-page memo. “They do not exist so that candidates for political office can attempt to make political statements and fundraise. And they should not be used to harass political opponents and sow completely unfounded doubts about the integrity of elections. All of those things happened in this matter.”

Hobbs’s legal team joined Maricopa County’s motion for sanctions, court records show.

“Enough really is enough. It is past time to end unfounded attacks on elections and unwarranted accusations against elections officials,” the memo states. “This matter was brought without any legitimate justification, let alone a substantial one.”

While Musk is supposedly for free speech (as long as not critical of Musk), maybe Lake's legal team pointed out that being able to say dumb stuff is not the same as being safe from the consequences of libeling others?

Defeated Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake (R) deleted a tweet accusing the judge who dismissed her election challenge of integrity violations.

The tweet, which was posted early Monday morning, suggested the founding partner of a law firm representing Gov.-elect Katie Hobbs (D) emailed Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Peter Thompson “what to say” as he authored the dismissal.

“The Dismissal of Kari Lake’s Election Lawsuit Shows Voter Disenfranchisement No Longer Matters @Rach_IC:”Legal experts believe his decision [by Judge Thompson] was ghostwritten, they suspect top left-wing attorneys like Marc Elias emailed him what to say,” the now-deleted tweet reads.

It might be amusing, even helpful, that Elon Musk's largess re GOP/GQP/MAGAs posting swill could blow up in some cocky faces as they mouth off without regard for consequences beyond Elon's playground.
