Hey survivor fans. Another season and it looks like this one will be fun to watch unfold. I love the division into three groups based on careers and life approaches. I am a white collar guy, but I found myself hating that team quite a bit.
Here are the teams:
White Collar Carolyn, Joaquin, Max, Shirin, So, and Tyler
Blue Collar Dan, Kelly, Lindsey, Mike, Rodney, and Sierra
Hippies Hali, Jenn, Joe, Nina, Vince, and Will
Right off the bat, the game starts and someone must be chosen to represent the tribe. All three teams sort of let someone volunteer. Then that person had to pick another to choose another. This wound up being something called "Honesty v. Deceit." The two chosen players had to make a secret decision a "large" bag of beans for the tribe or a "small" bag of beans for the tribe and a clue to a hidden immunity idol for themselves. The Hippies and Blue Collar teams went with honesty, those back at blue collar camp, Sierra did not believe them and thought the bag looked too small to be the big bag of rice. Team white collar took the clue and lied back at camp, but it was a terrible lie.
Once it happened, I told my family I would have taken the clue, but brought it back to camp to share with everyone, saying that the bag of beans was small, but the idol could help anyone. But who knows if anything would work at this point in the game.
Back at camp, personalities start to come out. Dan, who seemed a pretty straightforward guy, immediately became the old guy on the young team, as we have seen a dozen times before. He tried to take charge on shelter building and seemed condescending. He was on the outs fast. Meanwhile, on team hippie, we saw a really creepy display from vince. Vince told Jenn that they were kindred spirits and wanted an alliance, but when Jenn also started to befriend and flirt a little with Joe, Vince did not like it. He and Joe argued a bit over how to build the shelter. But then Vince pulled Jenn aside and creepily asked her if she was attracted to Joe and if they were still an item. It was weird. Jenn was clearly put off. Then Joe made fire, and Vince hated him more.
Of course the producers decided to hide the idol in an obvious tree nook, so even though Joaquin and So had the clue, Carolyn followed them, saw where they were searching and found the idol.
LOVED the first challenge. So many parts. But in the end, the puzzle won the day for team blue collar. White collar had a huge lead and Mike, who lost time earlier on the knots, finished off the 10-piece puzzle fast. .
back at camp, So made the mistake of being too aggressive. Instead of picking the easy target Shirin, who messed up at the challenge, she went for Carolyn, who seemed to do nothing wrong at camp or at the challenge. It was a bad call, because it put her on the block. Tyler, seems a very good player, sat back and gathered information. Carolyn confessed to him that she had found an idol. Tyler used that, but had to decide where to go with it. Vote her out or join her. In the end, he told her she did not need to use the idol, which was strange. I would have told her to play it since it would get it out of the game, unless he thinks he can control her or she is loyal. It was a fun tribal. In the end, it was So who left.

(34,115 posts)that I liked the show right away. The smaller tribes make it easier to know the people. I agree about the shelter building with the Blue Collar tribe, he was condescending, he needs to chill because he does not seem like a bad guy at all. Vince? Creepy? In a major way. It is like he is going to drag Jenn off by her hair while he beats anyone else away with a club. The look in his eyes, wow. He needs to go before I get too creeped out to watch it! I don't think I have ever been that creeped out watching the show, even with the Hantz drama. It was funny watching the White Collar tribe. Of all the tribes they were the hardest to predict because there did not seem to be a single trustable moment with them. They will be like wild cards in the game for me. I don't hate them but damn I would not want one of them on my team. If I were there I would be in the No Collar tribe, the only surprise there so far was the ME MAN SHE MY WOMAN moments. Looks like they cook up some drama there for next week. Looking forward to it.
Anyway, it really was pretty predictable tribe-wise but I am sure that was due a lot to editing. Still, it made it good and a very quick hour and a half. Looking forward to this one. I lost a lot of interest in the last one, did not really care too much about it. Hopefully with the chance to get to know the characters better with these smaller tribes it will be more interesting and fun.

(20,805 posts)Interesting that the White Collars went with ageism rather than with the person that screwed them in the challenge, and then got rid of So instead who is one of THE worst liars in Survivor history...
Interesting to see the hippies winning the challenge, and really happy to see the blue collar team gutting it out to scramble back and take second place...
Looks like it could be a good season - no redemption island thank dog - and the white collars need to up their game or they will be quickly whittled away to nothing...

(4,851 posts)Letting So go was a mistake. She was strong, fast and clearly not a good player. I would keep her forever. If that is how she lies and tries to outwit, she is an easy mark.

(16,104 posts)It will be very interesting to watch the group dynamics.
Already saw the 'white collar' members pursue individual advantage and then pay the price. But did we just see a strong alliance form?
Each group is identified as a particular 'class' of people and this should influence the members self-identification.
However, in the immortal words of Cyndi Lauper, "Money changes everything." There can be only one. We have seen alliances stand together to the end, and we have seen backstabbing manipulation to the end.
This is going to get good!

(10,642 posts)I sincerely hope Dan keeps his long pants on and doesn't walk around in his underwear all the time.
And Vince...that hug...ewwwww! Made my skin crawl.
This site has tons of stories about Survivor: http://www.reddit.com/r/survivor/
I think I'm liking the idea of 3 separate teams, instead of 2.
Nice to see you, dr.strangelove! Hope you're surviving the crazy weather ok!

(4,851 posts)Its nice to see you too. I hope to have the time to do this every week, like I used to. I miss watching it live. The past few seasons I have been mostly watching it sunday afternoons with my wife, but I think I might actually have wednesday nights free.
I am with you on Dan and that SCARY underwear. I am not sure who is scarier, Dan in that tiny brief, or Vince and the creepy hug.

(16,334 posts)Vince. CREEPER! Ick. I know they edit but ick ick ick!
And I was thinking that White Collar has already shown they aren't too bright. They could have lied in a much better way about the immunity idol. Like the others said, if you've seen Survivor, you'd know there's no such thing as Neutral. What would be the point of that? They were stupid to suggest it.
And for the life of me, I still cannot figure out why anyone confesses they have the idol to anyone else UNTIL it becomes part of the strategy. Otherwise, it can be a huge target on their backs.
