Related: About this forumABC's Scandal.... I've tried to like, it, really, I have, but....
It seems to get some critical acclaim, so I've tried to watch it... Not the least because I like that a black actress (Kerry Washington) is finally getting a starring role built around her and, heavens, what a great progressive she is.
But, while I admit that it is probably better than 90% of what we get from network tv, nowadays, I find both the show (and particularly Washington's performance) really disappointing. On the latter score, I've never really seen any of Washington's previous work as an actress, so I don't know if it is just the way the role is written or reflects something lacking in her acting abilities. But, she seems such a uni-dimensional, one-note character with expressions limited to forlorn doe-eyed to forlorn (but angry) doe-eyed.
She's such a good progressive, I don't want to say more, but heavens her acting capabilities seem to be lacking in this role. The premise of the show is not bad, considering how formulaic is network-produce drama, nowadays and it does touch on some Bush-era excesses, but I just find the whole thing---disappointing.
Thoughts?

I don't much like Mellie but do sometimes feel sorry for her. She is just who she is. lol

I'm with Little Star, I love the love affair between Olivia and Fitz. I know I shouldn't but I do. I love the Huck story line...I love it all.
I even got my husband hooked on the show.
I haven't watched the season finale, I'm dvr'ing it so I can watch with my husband. I can't wait to watch.
I think it has nice twists and turns.
I also like the gay storyline, with the adoption and all. Love how they have that in there.

Wow...yes, shocked me too. I'm going to watch again. I had to wait for my husband, who was like...WHAT?!?!
We're going to have to start a thread, with 'spoilers' in the subject line so we can talk about this. I NEED talk about this. LOL.

(22,000 posts)and was able to catch up on episodes before the finale. I have actually enjoyed it and the plot (though I have to admit I hate each time that Olivia and Fitz get back together, she is so stupid for going back to that idiot numbskull). My favorite person on the show is Katie Lowes as she has a certain kind of a charismatic feature about her that really is different from someone like Washington (who is beautiful).
