Survivor Caramoan - Episode 11 Discussion Thread - NO SPOILERS PLEASE

Sorry my episode reporting has not been prompt and for missing a few, but life just seems to get crazy at times and I don't watch until the following Tuesday night and it seems crazy to post a summary the day before the next episode airs.

Anyway, let me say that last week's surprise ouster of Phillip was fun to watch. I love Malcomb playing those idols, but how he and the two muscle boys did it was stupid. I mean Reynold had to hear Phillip and Dawn say the Andrea was the next to go. By playing that right, it would have turned Andrea and secured Erik and maybe they all keep the idols. Crazy. Still fun to watch though.

This week, it was the dumb moves at the auction and later that did in Malcomb. Everyone who has ever watched this show should know this one rule, if you are in a season with a food auction you DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT, spend any money until Probst offers an advantage in the game and then you jump up screaming the max bid as fast as humanly possible. So first thing out of the chute, Malcolm spends $20 on beer and trailmix. Idiot!. But that dumb mistake was undone when suddenly the rest of the tribe let him get the idol clue with his remaining $480. Only spend money when it will help you, and keep that help out of the enemy's hands. They lucked out because Malcomb got a clue and messed up his play with Andrea later. Perhaps the only thing dumber than this was anyone still in the game not immediately bidding all they had for the challenge advantage. Cochran gets it for $340? Seriously? How stupid is this. so cochrane gets the advantage, Andrea gets beans and rice for the tribe and everyone else gets peanut butter. What a terrible batch of bad play to witness. The only fun moment was Brenda asking if brains were good for you and Probst saying, I don't know. Loved that exchange. Cochrane sucking PB off Sherri's fingers was pretty funny too.

After the token crying over letters from home, Reynold and Malcolm pitch Sherri. why she does nto is beyond me. She is a sure fourth and probably final 3 in that group, in the other she probably goes home earlier. But honestly, at this point she is the best person for any twosome to take to the finals because I can not see any way she beats anyone left int eh game except maybe Andrea. But their pitch is horrible. It essentially was at worst fifth place fifth instead of saying, for sure we are final three. We will take you over Malcomb because no one can beat him, but against us, you have a solid chance of getting all the favorites votes. So those two bozos pretty much killed Shari flipping, but the editing was there to make you guess. My wife and I were sure she was not flipping though.

Then Malcolm messes up getting the idol. He leaves early and can not find it, so he gives up digging. Why not deal with her. Why not tell her how she was clearly the next to go and she should join him and take Shari to the finals and let the best one win. Why not try anything that would have been such good TV it could not have been cut. Instead, she sits on the well and Malcomb does nothing. At least dig and find it first.

So he does nothing and then it is IC time. Cochrane continues to play an amazing game and uses that advantage perfectly. He spared his muscles ten minutes of agony and kept the knots to hold on to. So team cochrane splits the vote, Sherri and Erik do not flip and Malcomb goes home. HAd he found the idol or got the real next victim, Andrea, out, he would have had a chance. But he never had Eddie work on her and he never did either, so he got ousted for bad play. so three fans are still there, which is surprising. they need to get rid of Reynold, because he can win this thing if they let him. Those two have to gather whatever they can to say we are two votes, use us, and hope they win ICs. Erik is in a great place and Cochran may just win this thing if they can keep the tribe together one more week.

Good season so far.

Shame about Malcolm. I thought he was a cool dude. I love Cochrane tho. The wife and I are rooting hard for him. The auction was a bit of a letdown. I tell ya, if I was Andrea I woulda been irritated that my item was used for the twist. I mean, who's gonna be selfish? I can't think of any in the years we've watched. OF COURSE ya gotta get the tribe stuff. Love this show. Last of the true "reality" shows.

..Malcolm said that Dawn was basically unhinged...crying all the time...I hope she goes soon...Malcolm was the guy I wanted to win...now I sort of hope that Cochrane does the impossible...Am I the only one that finds the emotional outbursts with family mail a little much? Yes, I get it, it has to be stressful, but seriously folks, you're doing this FOR A MILLION DOLLARS....if it takes that much of an emotional toll on you I think you need to re-evaluate your life...

This has been, by a wide, wide margin, the best season in years, and I will go on record as saying that my initial worries that another 'Fans v Faves' was going to be a bust, has been 100% wrong...

The next few weeks are going to be very entertaining I think as the alliance starts to shatter...

Love it!!!

I was also pulling for Malcolm this time. I think he made some strategic mistakes with his idols. I loved the big play in last weeks tribal council, where they blindsided Phillip, but maybe he should have let Eddie be sacrificed and kept the secret one for himself. That's all hindsight of course, and easy for me to say. Can you imagine how awkward it must have been when Malcolm arrived at the Ponderosa and having to be with Phillip, after having said that P was a fun sponge etc?

And, I agree with Dr Strangelove, that even with Andrea sitting there, Malcolm should have just kept digging until he found the idol. Even if she saw and told everyone, he would still have been safe for another 3 days. Too bad. He was trying to make things happen but he might have been too naive about some of the others like Sherri and Eric going along with the 3 Amigos.

So at this point, I'm also now in Cochran's camp. It would be pretty funny if the uber Survivor nerd pulled it off and won. I'm taking his 'macho' act after winning some challenges and his comments when Sherri fed him peanut butter to be sarcastic or sardonic--whatever the appropriate word would be, and I appreciate that sense of humor.

Even with the stress of being in the game, I have never understood why all the over the top emotional stuff for the letters from home or the loved ones showing up. Not only are you playing for a million dollars, but it's just over a month you're gone right? Sure, I would miss my husband, but we've talked about this aspect of the game and both agree it would be "See you in 39 days hun". Some of the players act as though they will never see the loved one again. Ah well....

Definitely a better season that some of the recent ones. Gods help me, I look forward to each episode!

that I'd take to chicken over her letter. She said for a million $, I'd better! And the sobbing is irritating as heck lol. You're dead on right.
