The Newsroom takes on Scott Walker tonight.

"The Newsroom," HBO's fictional series about a cable network newscast and its controversial anchor, played by Jeff Daniels, will include a storyline about the Madison protests in Sunday's show. HBO did not make a copy of the episode available in advance.

According to a synopsis:

"In the midst of covering the ouster of Egyptian president Mubarak, the “News Night” team learns of a protest in Wisconsin against Gov. Scott Walker’s bill to balance the budget by cutting teachers' jobs." Producers played by Alison Pill, John Gallagher, Jr. and Thomas Sadoski, "hustle to get side-by-side views of the simultaneous uprisings on air."

The show was created by Aaron Sorkin, who won an Oscar for the screenplay for "The Social Network" and created "The West Wing. He wrote Sunday's episode.

There was hardly anything about the Wisconsin protests and most of the episode focused on the uprisings in Egypt and their correspondent there.

But there was good stuff about the Koch bros and Citizens United as well as the Repub era of deregulation.

Overall I thought it was a good episode but not as strong as the previous ones. I'm a news junkie so I want more of that rather than the soap opera themes which seemed to dominate this episode.

Even the slow parts did have moments of great dry wit that had me laughing.

The way they covered the Gabby Giffords shooting. That was just phenomenal. On top of that you had 4 people yell the word "fuck" in less than 15 seconds.

Episode 4 was good as well. The "Rudy" moment was well played the way they described it in the meeting setting it up for the moment at the end.

I laughed so hard both times Maggie nailed Jim with the door. Neal punching the computer screen and Don trying to knock the door in was pretty good too. Lots of characters ended wounded in that episode. The new nickname for that one might be "the walking wounded" episode.

Last night's Newsroom went for the emotions, big time.
Yet somehow Sorkin pulls it off without it feeling TOO manipulative.

I like the show and not like it at the same time. Like rehashing stuff from a few years ago. But then again, I like the way they get into things like the citizens united thing. And the whole lay off the kochs because I have to work with these people.

Love the timing of the show, in the election cycle.
