Related: About this forumAnyone watching the new "Dallas"?
It's surprisingly pretty good...I mean, it's a soap, but a good soap...it's good that they have the old characters on, but with the exception of JR and Bobby, they are really minor roles. I'll keep watching. It's only a 10-episode season.

I know they are trying to play up Larry Hagman's "fragility" as a plot ruse, but he surely does make me worry that this might be too much for him...

And if you want to really feel old, think about how many years it's been since you STARTED watching the original.

(103,856 posts)I probably did not like the original all that much,., itl;s been too long to remember for sure, but I never liked Victoria Principle, or Larry Hagman or the ones who played Bobby & Sue Ellen..
alphafemale
(18,497 posts)Give it another shot.

(18,497 posts)I tuned in out of curiosity more than anything. I set the DVR. I thought it be one of those sad reunion type movies that have been made in the past.
But the writing on this is really very good.

(56,177 posts)More so than the original, I think.
Little Star
(17,055 posts)It always takes 4 or 5 episodes for any new show to hit it's groove. I think it will only get better.
Besides I loved the original "Dallas" even tho it was a soap. I never liked daytime soaps, never ever! But there were a few of the night time ones I did like, for instance Dallas, Knots Landing & Falcon Crest.

I wish they'd bring Linda Gray in a little more.

in the near future. Her character is way too good to waste. lol
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)for sort of giving some "history" to the plots...they've evolved Sue Ellen and she gets major billing so you would assume she'll play a role.

(56,177 posts)I always rooted for JR against Bobby...he was too goody-two-shoes.
alphafemale
(18,497 posts)I love the devilish glint in his eye though. So help me I do.
I'd pick him over goody goody Bobby any day. sorry.

(5,170 posts)Ray is Lucy's half -uncle, and yet they are dating? Am I reading it right? Ew.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)Ray was Jock's son, making him Lucy's half-uncle...in season one the storylines began and ended in each episode...they really didn't drag it out and become a soap until season 2.
OrwellwasRight
(5,170 posts)Still, kind of icky.

(56,177 posts)But I don't think the viewers did.

(24,229 posts)hate these new kids that are too young to be the kids from 35 years ago.
alphafemale
(18,497 posts)lol.. John Ross should look about 35 (at least) not 25? I didn't watch Dallas long enough to see if there was really a Christopher or Elena. This is fun though.
TeamPooka
(24,229 posts)are both bad at math.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)WHole storyline about whether JR was actually the father.
alphafemale
(18,497 posts)I was wondering about some of that.
And did Pam "just disappear?" as was mentioned?
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)But they never showed her dying or confirmed she died, so technically they could bring her back.
Little Star
(17,055 posts)Maybe they are hoping to keep this new young cast around for many years?
