When big stuff is happening, most networks let you watch on the TV through Roku or other free networks. Otherwise, the news stations on those services are limited to 10 minute sessions per day.

9. Hook your computer to your television.

Get a nice wireless keyboard and mouse so that you can control it from your comfy chair. That is how I do it. Hell, every television in this house is hooked to a computer, not to mention a gaming console, an antenna (I cut the cable years ago. I am not paying two different companies for the same content), and a blu-ray player. Most modern televisions have these connections. Now, if your setup is completely retro (i.e.: a tube TV)... well... therein is the rub, isn't it?

11. Yes, you would hook your computer to the television

As you would hook the computer monitor to the computer. Using the television as the monitor for the computer. Most laptops have the connections to do this and would allow you to use it elsewhere when you are not using it with the television. Some newer televisions have the means to do this with wireless, but I prefer hardwiring in these instances. (But, I do A/V stuff and am a stickler for picture and sound quality... heh.) You will have to have the proper cables to do this.. usually a HDMI cable will do it. The HDMI cable carries both audio and video so it would be the only one you need.

13. Streaming Services

I cut the cord years ago too. Have pretty much used my smart phone to create a hot spot for internet service.

With covid I finally had to get an ISP for MS Teams meetings and Webinars for work.

My question for this discussion is whether or not you have to have an ISP to run streaming services?

Now that I'm slowly being dragged back in to the digital age

6. Scripps News

Scripps News is an over the air news channel. If you have a digital antenna or just rabbit ears like I have you should be able to get it from a local station.

They don't really do the talking heads thing. Just good solid reporting and stories of interest..

There used to be a channel for Al-Jazeera but they changed to something else. Darn it. But, Scripps is good.
