Meghan McCain snarls at View co-hosts when asked why she’s a conservative: ‘I’m not here to teach a class’

“The View” co-host Meghan McCain got flustered when her colleagues challenged her to identify her core conservative values. McCain was repeatedly confronted about her political viewpoints by her co-hosts in Friday’s episode, and she explained that those views had made her a target once she left Arizona.

“I think it’s important, when I leave my apartment in New York City, from the second I leave, I’m inundated culturally, in the news, socially when people yell things at me that aren’t nice on the street, I’m reminded I’m a conservative,” McCain said. “It’s not the same experience for a liberal living in New York City. For me I take, as you said, where I come from, which is a deep red state, very seriously to show that perspective on a show where I’m one voice of many.”

Joy Behar said she believed they agreed on a number of topics, and McCain recoiled.
“We don’t agree on anything,” she said.

Co-host Sunny Hostin asked her to define the conservative values that made up her core identity.
“Well, no disrespect, I’m not here to teach a professorial class,” McCain said,
looking toward the audience (for approval).

Host Whoopi Goldberg refused to let her off the hook that easy, and said it would be helpful to viewers if she explained what she believed.
“Small government, strong national defense, I’m extremely pro-life, pro-military,” McCain rattled off. “I believe that America is a shining beacon on top of a hill, like Ronald Reagan said. It’s a popular one that is gaining traction,” McCain insisted.

Goldberg and the others seemed baffled, and co-host Ana Navarro complained that McCain was spreading misleading Republican propaganda. “It actually is not popular,” Navarro said.

"Small government" is for small countries.
"strong national defense" is for everyone - and it makes Big Government!
"I’m extremely pro-life" is need for the children who died at the border.
"pro-military" mean what? more War? everyone like those serving.
"America is a shining beacon on top of a hill" - someone tell Crooked Donald!

Most of the time she has no clue what she's babbling about - it's just a regurgitation of nonsense, in search of validation from SOMEONE, ANYONE in the audience. And when she doesn't get it, she sure turns shrill and snippy.

Meghan has no talent, what so ever, for the job she currently holds. I think she should get a job that allows her to put her Art History degree to good use.

She puts herself out there as some sort of educated, experienced political commentator but I suspect she's likely little more than an echo chamber for her husband's opinions. I say that because she has gotten increasingly more obnoxious, since her marriage.

Her husband sounds like a real piece of work.

which numerous analysis have concluded that this bill didn't do one thing for the average American taxpayer. Instead of what it did, was bloat the federal deficit to an insane level of debt. Where were the so called conservatives then? I'm sick and tired of them trying to put themselves above all of us.

And by the way, I am too, in desire of not a small government, but smart government (which has nothing to do w/ size), strong national defense and military (aren't we all?), pro-life does not mean over riding the rights of others. And also, what constitutes so called small government? I've heard this uttered so many times and not clearly defined. Is this another way of saying 'no social security?', no regulations that protect the public, etc.?

Her excuses are pathetic. This was all she could claim (three things basically). Some defense. They in truth, have no defense, no comeback to the fact of the matter that what they truly stand for, is denying the rights of others (not themselves).

Her Hubby being a far right POS,needs cover and his Spouse is doing her best to play the part.

It is all about the Paycheck at the end of the day. And McCain might be living on the edge money wise.

For a while, there, she came across as a somewhat politically balanced individual - conservative but not insane. Now she's so obnoxious, I rush to hit the mute button, when she starts screeching and blithering. I wish I had the fortitude to time how much of the show her rants dominate. They need a kill switch on her mic. Either that, or a taser.

It would be interesting to be in the audience, to gauge their reactions to her outbursts. I know she gets really flustered when she turns to them for affirmation, and doesn't receive it with enthusiasm.

Someone wondered if Whoopie sometimes pulls her aside, during commercial breaks, for a little 'guidance and advice'.

Any positive comments, about her, are few and far between.

I understand them wanting a balanced set of views being expressed, but the problem with Meghan is, she does her best to shout down everyone, with the possible exception of Whoopie, and if they say anything she can grab onto and transform into an exercise in 'self victimization', she's in her offended glory.

This is Show Biz at it's ugliest, only example worse would be Murdoch TV. The Talent Contracts are major big, tons of dollars sitting around that table and their are Talent Agents very mindful on how everything plays out in real time.

All about the money.

They can discuss and disagree about things, but there's no loud, angry vitriol being spewed.

It's my understanding that the panel has always included a mix of both political ideologies, but I've been watching for less than 2 years so I have nothing to measure these shows against, for this kind of childish behavior. I did recently see a clip of a melt down one of their previous conservatives (Elizabeth Hasselback?) had, on a show, but have no idea if that was an continual behavior, as it seems to be with Meghan.

My guess is the Demo's prove you right.

Having had a family member doing Script writing for a couple of local Network Affiliates in the Upper Midwest, one hears the cynical aspect of Daytime Programming in that Market. His day started at 2 am with production meetings as well as the topic of the day or more than one topic of the day and how he needed to script the show before 6 am and do at least one run through before going into final production with the so called Talent. Then there is the post production debrief that takes place to figure out what went wrong and what the Phone Lines told them about what went right.

There is not much room for Talent Spontaneity, extremely tight production.
