Murphy Brown/Candice Bergen salutes Aretha...

"...creator Diane English has said the concept of Murphy Brown fell into her head perfectly formed one day while she was sitting in Los Angeles traffic, and Franklin’s “Respect” came on the radio. True to her initial bolt of inspiration, this song framed the very first moments of the pilot episode when Murphy Brown premiered in November 1988 on CBS."

In an Instagram post today, Bergen shared a still from Franklin’s Murphy Brown appearance, saying “Aretha Forever!”

I'll be missing Aretha, but looking forward to seeing Candace as Murphy Brown again in a few weeks. No doubt she'll continue the tribute.

I have been watching reruns every night and they showed the Aretha episode about a month ago. That was a great show, actually most of the episodes were really good and when I watch them now (25 + years later) I hear the same names and themes come up in politics. I am looking forward to the new ones too.
