The bold Lancastrian Red Rose vs the slightly meek Yorkist White Rose. Of course, this only makes sense if you are a student of English history. And if you are, you would know from exactly which side of that battle I draw my blood line. (Admittedly, they both have their own unique beauty.)

The Yorkist rose almost doesn't look like any modern rose. I guess roses have evolved over time but this type stayed as it was.
I like the fact that you have a bit of British history in your yard.

(26,289 posts)It grows along the vegetable garden fence, and is a big, sprawling rose bush. It is particularly lush, this year and has a lovely scent.

(6,611 posts)There are wild roses here which come alive with Bumblebees every year. I transplanted some from the edge of the meadow into my garden where they've literally taken over within the past 10 years. But they're so lovely, I don't mind at all.
