(130,974 posts)I've noticed flowers appear to be suffering from the weather. You?
ljm2002
(10,751 posts)...that the flowers are suffering? or are you asking if I'm suffering?
I'm not from around these parts, so I don't have much way to know if the flowers are worse off than usual. All I know is, it's really, really green and lush compared to where I live -- Las Vegas, Nevada. So from where I sit, it looks like the flowers are thriving.

(130,974 posts)but as you're from a DESERT, I understand why you think DC area flowers are thriving!
Hope you're enjoying! Glad you saw DuPont!
are in a drought. When you finish laughing just imagine how much greener it could be if we weren't in a drought and getting cooked. You photos are wonderful though have to say I really liked seeing the architecture through your eyes.

(10,751 posts)...and I believe you about the drought. I was just stating truthfully, I have no relative point of comparison as to how the plants are doing.
And I must say, I have been amazed at how lush and green it is here in Maryland. Who knew? I just didn't know anything about Maryland at all, so it's been very eye-opening.
Thanks for the kind words on the photos!

(8,039 posts)smile because my mom was born and raised in Colorado. After college she made a trip to DC and then proceeded to break my grandfather's heart and move east. Her reason, she had never seen anywhere so lush and green. In between a lot of moves she ended up back here again I've grown up hearing that from lots of CO family. The CO part of my family would be rolling with laughter at us for complaining about the lack of rain even though they understand it. Then again I was appalled to find that some of them watered their lawns. I hope you share more photos and impressions with us.

(10,751 posts)...I remember you mentioned your mom moving to Maryland before. I can see why she found it beautiful enough to move here -- although I must say, Colorado is beautiful too!
Anyway, now that I've been here during the record heat wave, not to mention the derecho and its aftermath -- I'm definitely not laughing! But it's true, it is not at all obvious to me there is a drought going on here, either. Las Vegas averages about 4" of rain per year. It took some getting used to when I first moved there!

(3,908 posts)I was staying at a B&B within two blocks of Dupont circle one time and got there during afternoon rush hour and spent an hour and 45 minutes through the neighborhoods and around that circle. I finally pulled over into a cab stand and phoned the B&B and they directed me to a parking garage they contracted with. I swore next time not to drive in DC.

(10,751 posts)...I'm staying in Rockville, and take the Metro into DC most weekends to sightsee and take pictures.
It's strictly on foot for me! I would not attempt to drive, much less park, in DC!

(541 posts)I especially like the Southern Magnolia (last picture). Our two big magnolias were flowering like this about three weeks ago here in North Carolina. Love the smell of those magnolia flowers too!

(10,751 posts)...there used to be a magnolia tree next door to our house in the Bay Area -- but the tree was tiny compared to the ones out here. Right now I'm fascinated with the big pod-like things that are left when the flowers are gone. I'm going to try and get some pictures of those too.
Thanks!
