I have seen other peoples' results with the Sigma 150-600. Good stuff. My hesitation is the weight. One of my friends bought one and took it to Central Park. He lives about 20 blocks away from The Ramble - if that means anything to you.

Anyway, he took it out two times. It was heavy enough to be annoying and it was been in his closet for about 1 1/2 years, gathering dust. He took it out in October for the first time in a while. Got some good shots so I hoped he would reconsider and use it some more.

No such luck.

It is a Canon so I won't buy it off him.

Anyway, his problem with weight of the lens inhibits me from getting one.

Do you have to use a tripod with yours?

H

i can hand hold it depending on the shot.
I got some great hawk photos hand holding it over the weekend. You just need a lot of light so you can use a fast shitter speed. handholding birds in flight i use a speed of 1/2000.

yes its heavy. becasue of what i shoot with it i estimate i use a tripod or monopod 2/3 of the time.
