Related: About this forumColorado River drone shot
We are embarked on a 5-6 month RV trip throughout the West.
AZ, CO, UT, ID, OR, and back home in SoCal.
I brought my drone of course.
Heres a shot from yesterday facing south near Earp, CA on the Colorado River.

(102,294 posts)but rather to harass the wildlife and i'm fed up...
I do like the way in which drones can bring wonderful photography from ISOLATED areas, however.
Im very cautious how I fly so as not to bother two or four legged animals. 😊

(34,136 posts)I'm thinking about getting one, mostly to check when I think I hear an ATV or shooting in our bottom thirty acres. Also being able to use it for photography and other stuff would be extra.
I looked at some cheaper drones online (under $250) but none them have the range I need. Out property is a thousand feet wide and a half mile long - most of the drones I was looking at would not be able to reach the back part of the farm.
I would love to be able to talk to a local shop about drones - what kinds of places sell them?

(28,136 posts)My DJI Phantom 3 Advanced is an older model but would meet your needs.
I picked it up used with an extra battery for $400.
I use my iPad Air 2 as a screen on the controller but a phone will work. I like the bigger picture though.
Read the manual thoroughly before flying and when you go learn you should be in an open field away from obstacles.
My drone is easy to fly with its GPS positioning however it's good to know everything you can before taking off.
Here's a good forum.

Newer models twice that.
Keep in mind that FAA rules are limited to 400 feet altitude and line-of-sight at all times.
