Weber Canyon Fire

We had a fire start yesterday in eastern Montezuma County, CO.

It started around 4:30 yesterday afternoon. I took this about an hour later from the dog park in Cortez. 200 acres?

I went home and got my Nikon and took this about 2 hours after it began out east of town. It grew to 600 acres by nightfall.

This was taken late this afternoon from Mesa Verde National Park. The town of Mancos is in the center left of the shot. The fire was estimated at 2,500 acres at mid day.

130+ firefighters (this morning), at least three aircraft - the fire is uncontained. The terrain is very difficult for them.

Thanks for the photos, especially the last one where there is no destruction yet. It's a very serene and beautiful harbinger, isn't it?
Please let us know what's happening. Mesa Verde!
My heart is skipping beats.

The photos from the overlook were about two miles up from the park entrance. They had their bad fire ten years ago - the top of the mesa is still scarred.

Colorado is such a wonderful state... I worked in Buena Vista/Salida a few years ago and the drive from Colorado Springs was just breathtaking!
