(13,340 posts)I'm glad you captured the flares I've been telling people about.... I haven't seen other pictures that did. Thanks for sharing and great work!

(12,904 posts)But can I make a suggestion?
I live near Kansas City, where we had total eclipse. Because I babysit a two year old, I had decided that we would go outside during the eclipse, if we could find a place where she couldn't possibly look at the sun.
Long story short, about 2 min before total eclipse, we stepped out onto the front porch facing east, away from the sun. We were treated to one of the most beautiful skies I have ever seen!
There were clouds of varying color from a just-passed thunderstorm, shades of simultaneous lightness and darkness like something magic, and stars! So many stars!
I was transfixed by it, and so happy that I wasn't looking at the sun. Point of my novel being...I would like to recommend that you consider setting up a separate camera trained on the sky opposite the eclipse, that could take pictures remotely while you watch the sun. You could be rewarded with something very special. Just a suggestion.

(38,313 posts)Sparing a few seconds just to look around during totality was well worth it. Not just the stars or the streetlights going on, the lighting along the horizons was just *weird* and I'm not sure how I'd have captured it in a photograph.
The shadows just before and after totality were fascinating too.

I spend sunday night sleeping in my car in a walmart parking lot. woke up and checked the forecast and teh best spot seemed to be in the clarksville area so at 7am we headed out,i figured if clouds started to roll in i could high tail it elsewhere.

The last one just blew me right out of the water, although every single one is extraordinary. Maybe someday I'll learn about HDR. I have absolutely no idea what it's about or how to do it, but of course I can learn.
The corona in that last photo is just extraordinary.
Thank you for sharing!
