These are not examples of good photography, but they're really fun. These eagles are going to cost me some serious money. Now I want to go buy a new lens.

(86,780 posts)go get a remote controlled GoPro with a good battery or a trail cam thing and hang it in the tree after they leave, which will be by early July-ish. There are some good mounts and you can put a hood over it, then you can see the chicks, they are awesome to watch as they grow.

(31,464 posts)The nest is literally in someone's back yard, on the water. All of these pics are taken from a residential street, me standing in someone's driveway or on the road. It seems like it would be really easy to set up a GoPro and broadcast a live Eagle Cam stream. We're already trying to keep it quiet, as it's a small street. The nest is so close to the road that I can envision a big traffic problem if lots of people started doing drive-bys.
letting the public know about something cool always turns into a glut that ends up trashing the original attraction, and in this case it wold be your neighborhood. But, you wouldn't have to broadcast it everywhere... Keep it in the neighborhood, it's not like it's the only nest in the state or even the area.

(31,464 posts)That's what's so cool about it. We live on a lake in Eastern CT. Lots of hawks, but these are the first eagles I've seen anywhere near here, let alone practically in my back yard. The nest is very close by boat, I can see it with binoculars from my dock. Much better vantage point by car. But that means I have to drive halfway around the lake.
