Blue Himalayan poppy

Last edited Thu Jun 14, 2012, 12:39 AM - Edit history (1)

I'm not even sure I got one bloom on my two Himalayan poppy plants last year, but this spring I consulted with the nice young man at the Dimond Greenhouse, who suggested feeding them a little bone meal. Voila! Six buds. I really love these.

If we'd get a little sun, I'm sure it would lift its head up so I could get a better shot of the center of the flower. but it's just been raining and raining.

and the very beautiful little forget-me-nots, which happen to be Alaska's state flower. I have a bumper crop of them this year.

We've finally got some sun today and I now I have three blooms actually open like yours. I think the depth of the blue has to do with the pH of your soil, or so I've read. .

As disconcerting to me as a blue Coca Cola truck would be.
Utterly gorgeous flower and photo.

I just took these today. These are right out of the camera, no processing. By the way, I checked my pH and it's right on 7, which is actually a little on the alkaline side, but the flowers seem to be doing okay. I might add some garden sulfur.

This is along the walkway to our front door. The yellow flowers are arctic poppies, which also come in orange. I had some orange ones last year, but so far this year, they've all been yellow. These were here in this spot when I bought my home in 1990 and come back reliably year after year with no encouragement.
