Kathy and I really enjoy spending holidays out in the southern California desert. We spent Thanksgiving week in Death Valley NP, camped up in Hanaupah Canyon. I took a bunch of photos. Here are some of the first out of the camera:
Our Hanaupah Canyon camp, with the view of the Funeral Mtns, or at least the Amargosa Range, with Death Valley below. We have asked a lot of that Ford Ranger over its lifetime. This was a rocky off road climb.
Alkali stream in Badwater Basin.
The view over Death Valley from Dante's View on a cold, blustery, and partially overcast day. Our Hanaupah Canyon camp is on the bajada just opposite.
I was racing the sunset along Badwater Road, having already missed the last light at Artist's Palette. This is what I got.
Alkali reflections at Badwater Basin.
Salt polygons along West Side Road.
More photos at https://mcamann.smugmug.com/browse. I hope you enjoy these! I have more to process, so I'll post more soon.

(14,897 posts)I spent some time in Death Valley last year and was just awe-struck! Beautiful place.
Those are beautiful.
I camped there over Christmas decades ago. Always wanted to go back but never have. Your photos certainly are motivation to make the effort.
