Hi! Anybody like to share ideas or suggestions for August contest?
Hi there! Maybe I should get reacquainted, too...I haven't posted in the group for awhile, but you know, reasons, big and little. But more later on that. There's an August photo contest to talk about!
Right now I'd like to know if anyone has ideas they'd like to share for the August theme. I don't have a star right now, so won't run a poll, but will get one before the contest starts.
I was thinking, August is kind of a lazy month, but I'd like to get lots of entries...I'll make sure to harass the Lounge with lots of calls for entries!
Maybe "Dog Days"? It could be a dog show or whatever dog days of August makes you think of...lying in the grass, eating an ice cream cone...
"On the Road"? We had the Roadside Attractions theme awhile back, this would be a little different...could be travel pictures, or a photo of a chicken crossing the road.
"Power Lines"! 
well I'd expand this to Machines or Industry.
Other themes could be Costumes, Toys, Heat, maybe someone could suggest another theme that would be good. I'll post a topic tomorrow and start the contest on the 12th, that gives folks a week to think about it.
So I've been absent, even from DU for awhile! Well my camera broke, my fault, I dropped it once too often, things went sproing! and that was that. I bought NVwhino's Nike, but I wasn't comfortable with it for several reasons so sold it. Now I have a Canon, and have started to shoot again.
I've driven back and forth between Portland and LA area 8 times the past couple years...Visiting sister and uncle, both of whom aren't doing so well. My sister's cancer returned and this time it doesn't look good. I've been dealing with this and it has been depressing. I just didn't want to deal with all the internecine warfare during primary season and all that, felt bad enough already!
My internet is different now, too. Clearwire was bought by Sprint and all they did was shut it down. So now I use my phone for web access and I have discovered the world of "data caps" and what happens when you exceed them. (Like, dial-up is slow? Ha!) Click on a thread like Salmon Chanted Sunday Cat Thread and wait twenty minutes while it loads, then a third of the photos don't load. Fortunately, I'm learning...
So that's about all for now!

and that one is next month. Plus many that get vacations might be taking them right now. But yeah a summery type theme, like Dog Days of August, August Heat, On the Road, would be what I am trying to think of.
A subject that is open to a wide interpretation. Unlike a narrow theme like, oh, say, "selfies behind the wheel on the freeway"...

The phrasing is what I'm thinking...for a theme that has a particular description but has a variety of definitions and meanings. A certain ambiguity, I guess. However would you consider keeping it in mind for a later contest...mainly because that would be a contest I would really want to enter myself! (I'd consider entering a self portrait

Yes please enter as often as you can! I need to go out and take more pictures myself.
I looked at the lists you provided and they're great. thanks. I found a few other ones I liked,
especially "creepy crawlies!" 
I really appreciate your kind words for my sister. She is responding positively to this new treatment, so it's not as dire as it has been, but still it is heavy, plus us losing Mom and Dad in the past five years, it just seems too soon. But she is strong, and I try to be too.
