Even when it's pouring down rain...

ya' gotta' eat!

[IMG][/IMG]

I was sitting at my desk--while it's POURING down rain--putting up the finals for the May Photo Contest, when this poor little hummer kept coming in to get some juice.
Every time I grabbed the camera to try to get a shot, he flew off. So I waited, and waited, and waited, with the camera focused on the feeder, and he obliged
by coming back!

still trying to get a shot of him and his red throat. He either flies off, or it's blurry.

The battles around the Mexican Sage are worthy of any WWI dogfight.

and yes, they really go after each other!

The males are the first to arrive here--they migrate--but I've seen some females recently.

Identifiable because he's a bit bigger, and has larger marking on his throat, who likes to hover about two feet in front of my face when I'm sitting out on the porch.

They're aggressive little guys.

from the same feeder.

Sometimes when I'm out in the yard watering, one will hover near the hose. So far this spring
we've had so much rain I haven't needed to do any watering!

The only time I've seen many hummers harmoniously feeding together from the same feeder was in Peru. At the hotel
where we stayed--below Machu Picchu--there were several feeders. It wasn't unusual to see all 6 feeding spots
on a feeder occupied at the same time. Never got a sharp photo, though. I was just learning how to use my little
Canon point and shoot--which is the same camera I grabbed to get this shot today.
