Related: About this forummnhtnbb and I got to talking about how hard it is to make a choice for submission - Would you help?
I told her that in past years we often had "which one do you like best, which one should I enter" threads. And that they were fun and informative, and helped the person who could not make up his/her mind do so.
Or not.
So I said I would do one of those and we'll see what you like or don't like, and why, if you are willing to tell me.
Some of them are a bit different, but I think still "nice" enough for the theme.

(149,640 posts)These are all nice, but my favorite is the second one, The Captain's Realm.
Why? I love all the brass works!
It fascinates me.
Have fun choosing!

(22,380 posts)I like it but it's not a favorite of mine. Too dark, and in spite of the brass to me it lacks excitement. Appreciate the comment.

Just my 2 centavos.

(22,380 posts)I may wait and see how many boats and ships come in as submissions. I adore yours, by the way. Why? Subject matter, fascinating, tells a story, and beautifully shot and composed.

When I was living in Los Angeles, I once went to a New Year's eve party on the Queen Mary. Thanks for that memory! I used to have a photo--B&W--of
my dad who made a crossing on the Queen Mary back in the day!
I mentioned previously that I like stories. I like photos that tell stories, or trigger memories that create an identification with the photo.

(22,380 posts)I went to sign conventions at the Long Beach convention center, 3 times actually, and each time we stayed on the Queen Mary. It's a Hyatt now.
The history, the art deco, the wood, the ambience, the tours of the sub-decks, my explorations into deep hidden areas (I am good at asking forgiveness but not permission) hold wonderful memories for me. I hope to return once more in this lifetime because unfortunately most of my photos were lost when my external hard drive broke. And I simply cannot afford the 1000 to 1200 bucks estimate to get the photos back.
As I'm typing this, I am remembering one more place where I might have saved some of them.
HMMMMM. Must go look!

(31,394 posts)Have you thought of putting up a gofundme so you can get someone to retrieve them?
I'd sure chip in and I suspect a lot of folks on DU, would, too.
That New Year's Eve party we attended included being booked into a cabin overnight. It was fun! We did the ship tour, too.
This was years ago, though, before I met my husband. Must have been about 1982 or 83.

I could take you places on that huge ship you never thought existed. I did a lot of sleuthing. I think that is the place I fell in love with art deco and the charm of it.

(10,136 posts)I was hoping for something more than just all that "simple white paint".
However, I do like the color and texture of the deck and railings.
