(149,737 posts)I didn't have anything recent, and animal photos aren't common for me.
But I caught this one at a family gathering, and I love it.
I hope the voting public loves it too........just not too much!

(46,436 posts)I have had to take it in to my pro to hopefully get everything cleaned up. With any luck at all, I will not have lost all the photos I've taken since the first of the year, but computer dude said there are no guarantees. I probably have some usable photos on my external drives, but with no computer, I can't get to them.
I hope I get it back in time.
mnhtnbb
(31,408 posts)Hope your computer guy can retrieve your photos. Let us know how it's going--we can easily leave this open a day or two--so you can enter.

(18,219 posts)A friend in the photo club here had an external hard drive fail on him, and lost most of his photos. I hope that you have better luck.
THIS is why, no matter how many times MS nags me, I am just ignoring the "upgrade NOW" pop ups. Glad I am now.
Blue_In_AK
(46,436 posts)it apparently downloaded on me with a set of Windows updates. My computer guy said I must have said okay to download, but I sure don't see how. I accidentally left my computer on overnight, and when I woke it up the next morning, it was in the middle of downloading. Once it was finished, I tried it out and didn't like it, so I went to the place in settings where you can revert back to Win 7, but then my desktop looked all different, stripped down, and I couldn't find my pictures. So frustrating. I gotta get my taxes in, too, so this came at a particularly bad time.
And I took some really beautiful pics on Monday that I'd like to share, but I can't because I have nowhere to download them. At least I didn't erase my cards.
Curmudgeoness
(18,219 posts)that this will happen to me too. My IT guy tells me that 25% of the downloads screw up...and that is not good enough for me.
It is apparent that they do not want us to continue to use Windows 7 or 8, but if they force me, I want my IT guy to do it.
mnhtnbb
(31,408 posts)I kept refusing the Windows 10 upgrade (from my 7 that I special ordered on a new laptop about 5 years ago when 8 had come out) and then the motherboard on that laptop
died in January. My IT guy is my oldest son--who develops software--and he suggested I try Linux. So, here I am getting used to it. When we were packing up to leave Bonaire
I couldn't for the life of me find where to click to bring up the turn off choices (my son told me to just close the cover and let it go to sleep most of the time, but turn it off
for traveling or going to be away for quite a while) and then I remembered that pushing the button to turn it off brings up the turn it off (sleep, etc,) choices. Oy! There have
been other things that are different, too, but I really do like how I am no longer bothered by ads following me around from everywhere I've been on the internet.

(31,408 posts)The way we specified was longest side not to be more than 1024, so you're good. Theoretically 1024 x 1024 would be ok.

Do you suppose we'll get some lions, and tigers and bears (oh, my!) before we're done? We are coming up on tornado season!

(17,087 posts)After seeing the first entry, I figure the contest is over. Nice shot, Johnny!

(18,219 posts)I felt the same way after seeing that photo. But we still have to give him a run for the money, right? I found your photo to be so right though...fog, deer in the mist. Eerie.

(90,792 posts)Duh. Of course with a bird.
I'm loving the turtles.
I like all the entries. I love animals.

(90,792 posts)I love animals, so of course I adore the theme.
I especially love turtles.

(28,344 posts)This image was taken last fall when the bears were in hyperphagia. It's just slightly out of focus because of the combination of low-light and YES I was shaking a little.
What a beautiful guy though. Bear and the bear.
mnhtnbb
(31,408 posts)I would have been shaking, too!

(86,843 posts)what a chance encounter! Down here near the ID/WY borders we get grizzlies more often than black bears. I'd be a little nervous too. Great entry.
PS. So how do you get the $$ bills out of that narrow-neck jug?

(28,344 posts)It was truly one of those "is this happening?" kind of moments.

(86,843 posts)Yellowstone Cutthroat. It's at Trout Lake in Yellowstone NP, NE quadrant. There were two otter families there that year, last year there were none. Must have been low fish population, there have been fishery management actions in that area the past year.

(46,436 posts)so I had to grab something off my PhotoBucket, not the one I was going to use.
I hope it's not too obscene. LOL.
mnhtnbb
(31,408 posts)That is funny. I'm sorry. Can't stop laughing.
Consider it a place holder. Spaces are filling up fast. Do you think you'll get your computer back this weekend?
Blue_In_AK
(46,436 posts)I think my guy is working alone in his shop and he looked fairly busy, so I have no idea. This contest was filling up fast, though, so I figured I'd better get in.
It IS kind of a funny picture, though. The bull was funny - his nose was in the air twitching before he homed in on "the spot."
mnhtnbb
(31,408 posts)I have asked several people to resize submissions and I'm also thinking
that if we do hit 30 before the weekend, I might let it 'sit' for 24 hours
in case anyone changes their mind about their entry. After that I'll go
ahead and put the preliminaries up.
Blue_In_AK
(46,436 posts)I like these ones where we get 30 entries.

If we get to 30 entries before next Wednesday, I'm going to give everyone 24 hours to settle.

(19,459 posts)You are getting some really good entries, and as Blue noted, animal topics are popular.

(90,792 posts)Beautiful, CC!
I had to find something. Noon day sun, a flock of sleeping Flamingos and shade equaled one lucky capture out of I don't know how many tries.

(22,109 posts)It's a scan of a photo I took using a manual 35mm film camera when I was in the Borneo jungle 14 years ago. The photo itself is in very good condition and the subjects are in focus and sharp, but it seems my Canon scanner didn't do it justice.
I may try scanning again if you think the quality is too bad...

(31,408 posts)We have the delightful problem of having one too many entries. The last two were posted within a minute
of each other and happened when I was away from my laptop.
I would like to give everyone until 5 PM EDT today to make any edits on their entries. Two entries need to be resized and
those photographers have been contacted to do that. I will post the preliminaries this evening.
Thanks to everyone! We have a great group of entries!

(5,761 posts)Maybe it's time to kill the limit?
mnhtnbb
(31,408 posts)The Photography group has set the limit at 30 entries--makes a max of 3 threads of 10 items each (due to polling constraints of DU itself)--
for the preliminaries.
It's been quite a while since we've hit the 30 entry limit for any of the contests. But, you could suggest it in a separate thread and see what
people think.
