This is a client's house. It's really kind of an architectural nightmare, but it does have some interesting stuff going on if you look down.
And the front walkway way was interesting today.

(2,382 posts)I'm an amateur stonemason, or was until my back reminded me how old I am, so I adore stonework. But I agree with you; they got a little carried away. Interior stonework needs textiles, or something soft to balance it, otherwise it will start to look and feel like a dungeon. The outdoor stuff is gorgeous!

One of my contractors and I are try to come up with a creative solution that doesn't involve tearing up all the tile on the balcony. By the way, the overall look of the place is faux chateau.

(31,392 posts)I really like that last shot of the wall with the plant texture/color and pattern of the stones.
Very nice!

(20,886 posts)It's tricky though. The city water is really expensive. All that stucco, stone, tile makes for a very hot area in summer, and yet, because of the orientation of the house, it gets no sun in the winter.

(8,175 posts)but these are exceptional! That second one looks like an M. C. Escher work of art.

(20,886 posts)This house is sort of a two-story house, but it has seven different levels. It's entirely possible that Escher had a hand in its design.
