Related: About this forumHi all
I have debated long and hard about posting here and have been lurking because I never EVER mix politic with business, ever so with that being said, I am going out on a limb here and I am quite apprehensive about doing this.
I thought I would give you guys a little intro about me.
My name is John & I'm a professional photographer who is based in Colorado and I shoot natural and travel photography images.
I use Sony gear exclusively and teach private 1 on 1 workshops which I'll be expanding starting this year.
If you all have any questions, feel free to holler.
I thought I'd share some of my work with you all.
My website is here jdebordphoto.com and my facebook is here https://www.facebook.com/jdebordphotography

(149,629 posts)Wow, your photos are amazing and wonderful! I tell you, if I lived near you, I'd be signing up for lessons. One on one really works for me.
I hope you'll stick around and post more photos.
This is generally a very friendly group--we really don't talk politics in here.
Welcome to the Photo Group!

(22,380 posts)so I can come and take lessons. Going to look in the sofa cushions first, and now in all seriousness, I can't believe you hesitated to come see us. It's from pro like you to amateur like me, and that's a fact as stated in the rules to our forum.
My camera is a Sony Nex-7 - and before I now changed directions in my savings goal - I was going to buy an adapter to be able to use my few lenses from my previous Sony = Alpha 65.
All three of your creations are knocking my socks off.
Welcome!

(5,761 posts)The NEX line is good but it's basically dead. Save your cash and go with a Sony A series...A7, A7 mk2, A7s, etc. Best cameras made. Buy the Metabones adapter. http://www.metabones.com
I shoot a Sony A77 and a A550 myself. I decided to go with those because I need the FPS for wildlife which I photograph a lot.

(5,761 posts)I'm curious because Capture 1 for Sony is free and it's one of the best editors out there https://www.phaseone.com/en/Products/Software/Capture-One-for-Sony/Sony-Express.aspx

(20,886 posts)We're the nicest group on DU. We run monthly and seasonal contests and welcome all comers.
Spectacular photos. I used to live in Green Mountain Falls and then Colorado Springs. My heart still yearns for that amazing scenery, particularly the aspens in fall.
you can always hop a plane and come out during Fall! It's cheap to fly here

(20,886 posts)9 months away....$5 a week is all you'd need. Southwest is dirt cheap from NV

I love the light, the color, the composition...everything.
I've a fondness for animals though, so the last photo is my favorite.
I'm glad you decided to post!

(86,646 posts)Beautiful! Looks like this is your day job, well chosen!
Though waking up at 3am can suck lol
But the rewards, think of the rewards!
I know when I put that much into a picture, and I do sometimes like when I want to go catch up with a bear on a carcass or a sunrise at a spot forty miles away without camping out overnight. But when I get a couple good shots out of the venture it makes me smile and feel like I accomplished something special every time I look at it... works for me. I have only just begun sharing my stuff recently and so far, I only do that here.
I am considering starting up a product line though, I have tons of good photos for things like calendars and greeting cards. My sister has a business like that in SoCal and does pretty well (probably 50% of her income) along with a contract gig she does for bigger bucks on occasion.
I get to run the photo contest for Feb., my first time. Join us. It will be starting up soon so everyone can have a chance to go out and find something or search through their catalog.

(18,219 posts)Just kidding. You will find that this is a great group. No politics.
I love to see photos that really bring it home. These are wonderful...you will have to do a few little tutorials for us some day.
I do believe that I have seen the last two photos somewhere before.
pinebox
(5,761 posts)I honestly don't write many but I could try.
I would love to see this forum broken up some into areas of shop talk and picture posts....that would make things a lot easier.
Curmudgeoness
(18,219 posts)You will soon figure out what subject is shop talk and what is photos. We are an active group, but not so active that it is difficult to keep up with what is happening. Besides, we all seem to be interested in both, so it doesn't really matter.
I was just kidding about the tutorials, but as a beginner, I would love to know more about how you get such incredible shots. Is it that you see a great scene, and wait for everything to come together, like light and shadows? Or are you just really lucky to pass a great scene at the right time? Or is it mostly processing? These are the things that I wish I knew.
