this time i merged 2 exposures. i took the milkway way from this show along with a way over exposed version to get the mountains with a little detail and merged them.

on a regular basis. I only have seen the Milky Way twice - both times during electrical blackouts.

Best on a mountain. Best with a nice blanket and friend and food/beverage.

I used to live the DC area and had to go to the Shenandoahs to see anything like stars.

I moved to Vermont and every night (well, clear night) I am overwhelmed by the universe.

Because I grew up in the country, seeing the Milky Way was just a normal thing. I miss being able to look up and see the sky like that. Big Bend is a great spot for that

Did you get up to Ft. Davis to visit the McDonald Observatory? They have some pretty cool tours for citizens.

i was at mcdonald a couple of years ago. i was planning on going to a star party there but a dust storm blew in the day i got there and visibility went to crap.

Such splendor! Thanks for posting your awesome photo. My screensaver is the Milky Way over Mt. Rainier in Washington. Haven't seen it for myself in a long, long time. Will save yours as well to double my pleasure!
