The first thing you have to divorce from your mind is the concept that photography needs to reproduce what you see. Great photography actually produces what the photographer wants you to see, and that often means isolating a particular part or parts of the frame using various methods. High key is one of those methods.

I need to give this a try as something different to get me out of a rut.

Photography exists on a sliding scale of "photo as documentation" to "photo as art" to "art that started off as a photo". This pushes the photo in to the "art" range, which is neither good nor bad.
