Sunshine, warm weather, new lens

and I made a trip to the lake. The egret willingly posed for me, but the ducks moved to the other side of the lake.

So I moved to the other side of the lake. They, of course, moved to the place I had just left. So I shot weeds.

I caught some grebes a-grebeing. The ritual included diving for mud and grass, rising up on their tippy toes to present the treasure for approval and just generally dancing around on tippy toes. Quite fascinating.

The ducks were just beginning to move back in when these guys showed up and put an end to that.

I waited around to see if their presence would roust out the great blue heron I had seen early, but missed shooting. Nope, guess not so I folded up my tripod. And, of course, here he came. So I shot the heron hand held.

It does look delightfully warm. We have grebes up here, too, in the summer, but I've never seen them on their tiptoes like this. Usually they're taking a dive just as I get them in focus.
