Svan Rider

Photograph by Aaron Huey, National Geographic

Centuries-old defensive towers loom over remote villages in the Svaneti region of Georgia’s Caucasus Mountains. Svans in the collection of villages that make up Ushguli—a World Heritage site—hold on to deep traditions. Horses still provide reliable transport throughout the largely roadless region.

I like it because great composition, atmospheric perspective, focal point, plus subject matter (ruins! I love taking pictures of ruins!).

It's another place I never heard of...must put it on my itinerary.

A technical question...I've taken pictures with the sun on the horizon like that but I usually get a big blue field around it. How's it done? Filters, superior camera, obviously something I don't know but would like to prevent.
