(31,399 posts)But Photobucket has just changed how you edit photos--beware!--took me a while to figure out how
to find the edit option (mouse over the upper right corner of the photo you upload and several icons
will show, one of which is for editing to be able to change the size).
The fountain the little boy is wading in is The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain in Hyde Park, London.

(31,399 posts)When I took that, I was just shooting the Memorial fountain...which is in a lovely setting, and the
little boy was with his mom at the side of the fountain. Then he took off toward the waterfall
and I was so nervous for him--but shooting away--worried he'd lose his footing. His mom must
have suddently realized it too, because he was way out in the middle of the fountain before she got in
and waded over to him. No more shots after that...but I was much more calm seeing her
within arm's reach of him rather than several yards away on the edge of the fountain!

(131,053 posts)I'm looking forward to similar events, especially because I'm at the confluence of a river and creek. May get myself a whistle, as my shouting voice just isn't very loud.

(31,399 posts)do that one time at the Omaha Zoo. Took him out of the stroller,
turned to push the stroller where all the others were parked, turned around
and he was GONE!
So, beware the creek/river banks!
Does scare me a bit, especially as my balance is lousy, so all I can do is YELL!

Your new submission is whimsical and oh so summer. I loved making wishes as a child.
Great photo!

(31,399 posts)I can tell you, though, that I have been amazed at how many people
I've run into in the seven years since the fire who have also been through
the same experience. It is, indeed, traumatic. We lost just about everything--
although, amazingly, a couple of photo albums survived. If they hadn't, I would have
very few photos of my kids from when they were little, because I had not
yet started using a digital camera so that photos would be stored on-line somewhere.
Thanks.

(14,910 posts)The photographs was what came immediately to mind when reading your reply.
Shortly after my reply I looked around our living room and realized how many photographs we would lose in a similar situation...
It's a small gesture, however one I was totally willing to make.
Be well...
Solly Mack

Solly Mack
(90,779 posts)Please tell us about your wonderful photo. There's a story there.

(7,350 posts)Of course I will tell the story...Cliff Notes version!
I basically went on a 5 month road trip from last September to February this year. My best friend got married and relocated in Orleans, CA, in northern Humboldt County (very remote area, right on the Klamath River, wilderness all over)...I went to visit and stayed a couple of days. I had been there before a few times before...it is a beautiful area, but even with such a small population, there are social problems.
A month prior to my visit, a couple of locals had set a fire on the river bar and it spread to the hills on the edge of town, but firefighters fought it furiously, and after a few days quelled the fire...
My friend's Mom told me about a manzanita and madrone grove in the burnt area and how beautiful and unnaturally colorful it was.
Naturally I was curious and so I went! This picture is maybe most representative
I have more pictures! I might post them and talk about them if that is OK
Solly Mack
(90,779 posts)Thank you so much for telling me about it!
Please - post more!
Solly Mack
(90,779 posts)Wonderful shot that black and white just made that much better.

Mira
(22,380 posts)and it's quite sweet and simple.
I was on a bike ride not far from my house. I pulled off the road to follow a path and found this child along with her mother and sister tiptoeing through the brambles and picking dandelions.
I stopped and said something akin to: these flowers are nice, but none of them are as beautiful as you are. Would you let me take your picture holding one of them.....
And she swung into position, didn't she.
Solly Mack
(90,779 posts)So glad you came across the family while out biking.

(22,380 posts)I find a catch in my throat - i.e. my being - every time I see your photograph.
That little girl is floating through while carrying a big floating flag stick and i love it so.
It represents what to me is a prize winning depiction of happening, depiction and emotion.

(7,350 posts)I know where you were! That's Catalina...I'd say San Pedro.
Beautiful job! I didn't see any hang gliders when I was there but took a lot of pictures of kids flying kites. I thought about submitting one but that would have been cheating...it was January! Even though the sky was just as blue and it was 80 degrees out!
