no time to really get a good photo (these are taken on the fly) and the day was hazy; but a very pleasant day regardless...

(22,756 posts)my partner and I always consider that we may accidently get into someone's "crop" (or other such activity) and get shot...
just before I took the one up in the mountains, we were driving down a rough dirt road off the Blue Ridge Parkway, and came upon a couple young men running to their car, one carrying a large sheet bunched up like a large satchel, he put it in the trunk, the other man jumped into the driver's seat and they zoomed out... very suspicious we thought maybe contraband wildlife?? Turkeys maybe??
When we were working the Willamette National Forest, we were actually warned by a man at the DOT to be careful of "bootleggers" and growers... he was very serious!

(15,812 posts)Those definitely look like turkeys. Are you saying these got out of the car????? I got a photo of some really weird looking turkeys at the Tennessee River. Maybe I should post them.

(15,812 posts)My bad, I think.
I saw the strangest looking turkeys at the Tennessee River. I had to ask my husband to make sure they were actually turkeys. They definitely were wild, not penned up. Only one is in focus because I had zoomed in on them. Had no idea turkeys were anything but brown.

(22,756 posts)these are Guinea Fowl... I love Guineas! I used to raise them and they are so much fun... these are birds that are difficult to keep penned up.. they are noisy and delightful to watch!!
Celebration
(15,812 posts)I actually saw some first in an open field, not near anything.
Later I saw them around a house as if they were pets or something, but not at all fenced in.
They did look fun but this was on a highway so except for a pic I didn't stop, really.
