Look at the size of those ears!
A couple of days prior to this, Beau suddenly ran, as fast as his little fat legs could carry him, over the deck and around the house. I turned to see what dread enemy was invading. There, at the edge of the manzanita, stood a very large coyote
with a red ball in his mouth. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get the camera around in time. I guess canines will be canines.

They're interesting critters. If you look at them head on, you can see their very narrow head. I don't think they have a lot of smarts. There just isn't that much room.
