Related: About this forumWe're leaving for Nome in the morning,
so I'll be back with lots of pics toward the end of March when I get them all sorted out. Judging from the remarks on the thread about Scott Janssen reviving his dog with mouth-to-snout resuscitation http://www.democraticunderground.com/1002401741, I most likely will only be posting the Iditarod photos here in the safety of the Photo Group. Those guys can be vicious out there in GD, and since everyone seems to like me now with my aurora shots, I want to continue to bask in the glow. I've learned my lessons from eight years of abuse at the hands and furious typing fingers of the PETA types in Gen Pop.

We had a great time out there, and I believe this was the third year in a row with no dog fatalities, thanks to Scott Janssen's good work with Marshall. When he spoke of the episode at the finish in Nome, he said Marshall was doing just fine now, as if nothing had happened. That was some pretty heroic work on Scott's part, I thought. Scott Janssen is known as "the mushing mortician," since he owns a couple of funeral homes here. As he said, he knows dead when he sees it, and Marshall was definitely dead, at least for that short time. They should rename the dog Lazarus, I would think. It's wonderful that he was able to revive him.
The weather was beautiful -- cold, of course, but we didn't get much wind and the sky was virtually cloudless for the entire time. Of course, I have thousands of photos and it will take me a while to get through them, but I'll definitely post the links here when I'm done. HERE -- as in "the photo group." The naysayers in GD can just suck it.
Here's a good article confirming that this year was again fatality free. This is very good news for the Iditarod. http://www.alaskadispatch.com/article/no-dog-deaths-2012-iditarod

(8,039 posts)had a good time and took lots of photos. We'll give you a few minutes before harassing you to see some. Course the photo group shows on the latest page now but thinking if anyone wants to come here to give you a hard time we can enforce the talk about photos part and send them elsewhere (where ever is appropriate) to complain about the non-abuse. Dogs need to work at what they were bred to work at or they go nutty.
